Mother-to-mother support groups

If you need support, encouragement or breastfeeding information, your local mother-to-mother support group can help. These organisations offer telephone help-lines staffed by volunteer mothers who have received basic breastfeeding and counselling training. They are there to listen and support you during difficult times, and recognise situations where specialised help is required. They can play an important role in the prevention of problems, and studies show that women who benefit from their services have a longer, more positive breastfeeding experience. These support groups hold mother-baby meetings, where you can meet other breastfeeding mothers and share in a respectful, open and relaxed atmosphere. You don't need to have a problem to take advantage of their presence!
